What did i miss?

Responsibility and accountability, two big words that in todays society people don't really want to think about or take on board. We all have responsibilities, but sometimes we want to take a break, cause let's be honest, sometimes life can be like living in a gold fish bowl. Round and round doing the same old things, with the same 4 walls (unless your a goldfish).

Sometimes life can be hard, harsh and can leave us with feelings of being downtrodden. And with that, it's easy to want to do the opposite of what we should/could do.

Have you ever though.....I'm just gonna have a day off, a chill out day, Not go to work, cant be bothered with church today, i can watch that later, it's for someone else to do, it's not my job?

Well, here's a story about a guy called called John Egglan?

John Egglan lived in England and was a deacon in the Methodist church and he had a few choices to make.  It was Sunday morning and it was snowing heavy, and he had a job to do. He needed to get to the church and get the doors opened, the room warmed up and everything prepared for the minister coming for the morning service.

Unbeknown to John it was going to be one of those days. With the bad snow it was unlikely that anyone was going to turn up, but he had a job to do. And it would have been easy to just stay in bed, curl up with a warm blanket, get the fire on and let someone else do it all. After all, he wasn't the only deacon going.

But he went, he did his job and yet, hardly anyone turned up for the morning service, only 12 people and most of the other deacons had stayed home. And to top it off, the minister was a no show too. To be honest, he could have done without all of this.

Yet, when it came to making the choice of whether to send everyone home or find someone to give the sermon it would have been easy. Seeing as he had never been in the pulpit before, John stepped up to the plate and decided, it's my place and responsibility. So he stepped up and gave a 10 minute talk.

And in that 10 minutes, John changed history. He was stumbling with his words and he knew it, yet at the last he stood, pointed with his finger to a young 13 year old boy and said 'Young man, look to Jesus. Look! Look! Look!.'

And who was the young lad? Charles Haddon Spurgeon, who eventually became knows as the prince of preachers in England. Who God would use to bring thousands home.

So, my encouragement would be this. When you want to give up, stand, fight, keep going, do the job. Because you don't want to miss what God can do in your life. You may not be top of the pile, but God can use you to be a part of who is.

Don't miss out on what God has in store for you, don't give in, give up or stop trying. God has you where you are for a reason, and it may be to bring about the next great preacher/teacher/leader.

And when you struggle, ask God. Ask him for strength, wisdom, clarity because:

YOU can do all things through Christ which strengthens YOU. 1st Philippians 4:13 (abbreviated by me)
