walking in new life

 So been thinking again today.

The wife and I went out for a walk today and she asked me how my trainers were on my feet. She was asking as a few weeks ago, after trying out my new trainers, i got this huge blister on the heel of my foot.

It was painful and took nearly two weeks to fully overcome and so, when out walking today for a long walk, the longest i have been in about a year of lockdown my foot was feeling fine. The trainers weren't the comfiest of trainers but they were good for walking and the thought of the blister was gone, it wasn't an issue anymore.

And it got me thinking. How Jesus provides the right thing and the right place to go with the right equipment to serve, and how sometimes when we move into a period of trying something new that we often get aches and pains, niggles that can cause us to stumble, to limp, to hinder our walk with God.

Getting used to new things isn't always comfortable and sometimes we need to allow God to change our equipment for specific types of walking.

As someone who has been in a few jobs, some with business shoes, some with working boots and other such, we need to recognise that there are things we need for specific jobs in life and in ministry. And i have also found that wearing trainers in a muddy field don't do anyone any good as much as dirty steel toe capped boots don't work on plush carpets.

So, what was God saying to me about all this?

Quite simply, sometimes we need to change our tactics, our equipment and even allow God to change our gifting's as we walk with Him. Jesus teaches us that you don't put new wine into old wineskins, the effect is the wineskin stretches and burst with no one reaping anything.

And its the same in what we believe, sometimes in my own personal walk i have become a bit tough skinned in my outlook towards others of different lifestyles, ministries and church. Yet God wants to equip us where we are and to let him equip us for a new life and new ministry. And sometimes we need to let go of the past way of doing things and come closer to God by opening up ourselves to a love that tastes delicious.

Lets cast our preconditioned lifes-styles and allow Jesus to fill us afresh and maybe even lead us into a new calling in our life.

Matthew 9:17 - Neither do men put new wine into old wine-skins: else the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins perish: but they put new wine into fresh wine-skins, and both are preserved.
